I recall driving by an open field near our previous home several years ago. On that spring day, the sun was shining high above in the blue sky. The grass field was overrun with dandelions and those precious little weeds were in full bloom! All you could notice was a sea of bright yellow against a dark green foundation. Actually, it was quite a beautiful sight. That’s probably the first time you ever heard dandelions called lovely. But, for that moment, those “flowers” were stunning.

A couple of weeks passed and I happened by that field again. This time the view wasn’t as impressive; rather, unattractive would be a kind description. Fuzzy white and brown seeds replaced the yellow blooms. Some stalks had the familiar whitish ball intact, while others had missing seeds. Ugliness had supplanted the beauty. The field had become a picture of death. Any dreams I had of planting a dandelion garden were instantly shattered.

Isn’t this just how sin works? Sin can be inviting, attractive and appear to be good. At first, it seems to be harmless. However, once sin infects our hearts, it manifests itself in unholy thoughts and actions. Left unchecked, sin gives birth to death.

If you are struggling with a sinful habit or attitude, ask God for His cleansing power. He is able to break the chains that bind your heart, provided that you allow Him. Then you will be free to live life to the fullest.
