In a world that is filled with disappointment and pressures, we are in desperate need of peace. We are in search of a peace that saturates both our hearts and minds. Peace that, despite our circumstances, brings comfort and hope to our hearts. In the world we will be offered a temporal form of peace, but it is not lasting.

It’s only in Jesus we find steadfast, eternal peace. Jesus said in John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Christ knew the troubles we would face while living in this world: discontentment, sickness, disappoint and fears. We all face our own degree of troubles. To each individual they can be an unbearable burden. I used to think Christians had immunity to troubles in this world. But that’s not true. It’s during those low times that we seem to draw even closer to God. There comes a point in our lives that we realize that without God, there really is no hope. Jesus never promised we wouldn’t face difficulties, but he did promise to be with us in the midst of them. He is acquainted with our grieves. John 15:33 “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulations; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” When Jesus rose from the dead and ascended to the Father, he left us with hope. He knew what was ahead for us and therefore he comforted ALL with the above words. The road ahead would not always be easy, but don’t be dismayed, with Christ in our lives, we will overcome.

I’ve dealt with my own degree of difficulties; and I’ve only found the strength to overcome them by placing my attention towards Christ. We are to run to Him when we are weak. When I face a fear of some sort, my first response is to call on the name of God for help. The Bible says in Proverbs 18:10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. While on this earth, we will never fully understand the love God has for us. But when we compare it to our own children, what parent wouldn’t extend their hand out to help their child when they are hurting? This is the same compassion God has for us, His children.

During the restless nights, hold on to Christ’s words. They have been given to comfort us during our most difficult days. Living according to the Spirit makes all the difference. There is a battle in our minds one side is carnal and thinks temporal, earthly thoughts. The other side is spiritual and thinks heavenly, eternal thoughts. We must lean toward the spiritual if we want peace in the midst of life’s storms. Romans 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. To think carnally will get us nowhere. There is no hope when we focus on our problems or look for answers in the world. It’s only when we de-magnify our problems and put our focus on God can we truly find peace. Just knowing that God is so much bigger than our problems and that nothing happens to us that He doesn’t know or care about brings an enormous amount of peace to our hearts.

Lastly, Colossions 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body and be thankful. We must dethrone fear and anxieties from sitting on the throne of our hearts. By focusing on the word of God during life’s storms is the only way we can truly find peace in the center of them. Allow the peace of God to come in and sit on the throne of your heart today.
