Holidays
Each year at the beginning of November my family sets out an “I’m thankful for” dish. It may be a pumpkin dish, glass bowl or decorative vase. Inside we place slips of paper that have “I’m thankful for…” and lines on them. As we pass by throughout the month, each of us will write something we are thankful for on a slip. Then we fold it and put it back in the dish. There is no peeking until the slips are read out loud on Thanksgiving day.
We always write something specific about each family member. We write all types of things that we are truly thankful for like a gadget we have or a CD player, we list friends and family (and we say why on these) and of course, we each seem to list our salvation and things that God has done for us since then.
On Thanksgiving evening during our supper meal, we pass the “I’m thankful for” dish. Each one of us will read one slip of paper and try to guess who wrote it. The real author makes themselves known and then we move the dish to the next person. Invariably, there are many happy tears during this exercise. We totally love it! And we are reminded of many reasons to be thankful.
