There once was a lowly caterpillar named Joe who crawled on the ground.
Day after day that is all he did. He spent his days avoiding
birds and being squashed by humans. He dreamed of a better life.
Or, is this what he was put here for?

One day he came across a group of caterpillars. They were laughing
and having a good time. Joe got excited and started to laugh too.
They got silent and looked down on Joe. They chased him off.

Joe crawled away with a broken heart up the nearest tree. Suddenly,
a voice called to him, asking what was the matter. A butterfly from
the branch above reassured him. Joe was shocked to learn that the
butterfly used to be a caterpillar. The shock turned to excitement
as Joe learned that one day he too would become a butterfly.

Some days later something strange started happening. Joe found himself
trapped inside a shell. What was happening? Joe started changing, growing
wings. Finally, Joe broke out with a shout for joy. Yahoo! I'm a butterfly.
Strong and brand new.

Joe thought about his former life, crawling on the ground and being rejected.
Almost becoming some bird's lunch or getting scraped off of some human's shoe.
That part of Joe was gone and now he's brand new.

When we become a Christian, the same re-birth takes place. Our old way of thinking,acting and living pass away. We were living in sin, misery and shame. Even rejection. Even that part of life is gone. We called on Jesus and were welcomed with open arms. We can look back on the life we once lived and be thankful it is all gone.

Once we begin to realize just how we've been set free, we will spread our wings
and head for new heights. So many things about our life will not matter. So many
things will die, making space for things to take root or be born. New ways of
thinking or acting. Bad habits will be buried.

2nd Corinthians 5:17
"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a
new creation. The old has gone, the new has
come" (NIV)
