My Daddy lived seventy-plus years,
But it’s only just recently,

His words of wisdom ring in my ears
Reverberating words from yesterday.

“A daughter’s a daughter all her life”
I recall hearing him say.

“A son’s a son until he takes a wife.”
His expressions ebb truth today.

“If you can’t say something good,
choose to say nothing at all.”

“And just what’d happen if we could
learn to walk before we crawl?”

Growing older has made me realize,
the value of wisdom in daddy’s head.

And the experiences that made him wise,
have passed down to me instead.

Yes, the beauty of aging is priceless,
since, we too will leave behind

A mirrored image of daddy,
for a new generation to find.

Listen to your father, who gave you life,
and don’t despise your mother when she is old.
Proverbs 23:22
