My Redemption

Who will care for the child in the orphanage or the
child bounced from foster home to foster home?
Maybe they act out because they have never known love.

Who cares about the homeless wandering our streets?
Are they the only ones who feel lost in this world?

Who cares about the addict or alcoholic who hurts
themselves and others in the process? Are we the
only ones whose destination always seemed just
over the horizon?

And yet there is no redemption without first falling
down. We must burn to the ground before we can
rise up from the ashes with a renewed faith
and restored spirit.

As Christ spent his life searching for the lost and
healing the broken-hearted, it is God's hand that
reaches out to catch us when we fall. The spirit
of God fills the emptiness where pain and loneliness
used to dwell and in the spirit of God may I wipe
away the tears of a child with the same compassion
Jesus had for us all. May I put an arm around
a friend even when I feel unfriendly. May I hug
not only those who have stuck by my side, but
those who need someone by their side. When a
brother or sister is in need of help, will I at least
try to reach out and pull them out of the fire,
for I may pull myself out in the process.

As God has saved me from a living death, may I
live the rest of my life with the passion of
Jesus Christ, for Christ is the spirit of God with
the deepest sense of humanity. I praise God
for I now believe in Him and trust in Him.
Not for recognition or congratulations, or even
to go to Heaven, but for the child who only
wants a chance at life. May I love them like
Jesus. For the addict who still suffers, may I
love them like Jesus. For the person who only
treats people the way they do because they
are scared and lonely themselves, may I love
them like Jesus. May our hearts be overwhelmed
by the love of Jesus, for this is the spirit of God.
