Re-Engaging the American Culture

The Christian Church in America is in dire need of waking up, since it seems to have fallen asleep in the pew. Over the last forty years or so, Christians retreated to their church buildings in to insulate themselves from the secular culture. They felt safe inside of the their own religious circles resulting in many becoming comfortable, becoming almost sedated in the warm fuzzy glow of the safe zone within their own religious communities. Complacency became the norm, and soon resulted in total apathy towards even the things of God.

With the legalization of abortion on demand with some forty three million plus unborn children slaughtered to date, the radical feminists movement, the homosexual movement and their extreme agenda threatening the very Biblical foundation of the church itself, many Christians just want to run and hide somewhere, which is how the culture got this way in the first place.

A wake up call is now being issued, many are responding to it’s siren song, Christians are beginning to move back into the culture in order to recapture it for Christ, but many are still sleeping in the pews and either not hearing the call, or are hearing it and are plugging their ears in hopes ignoring it altogether.
The truth is that we can NO longer ignore our responsibility to be salt and light in our culture, we must raise up the standard in our society now while God’s Spirit is moving, or else we will miss the greatest chance we will ever have to re-engage/re-claim this nation.

Here are some steps that each believer should begin to take in order to re-engage today’s culture.

1) Be Heard: Speak the truth in love; even at times it will be tough love. Don’t ever compromise your beliefs and convictions under any circumstance. Don’t ever apologize for what you believe.

You can also write letter to the editors of local newspapers expressing what you know is right.
Don’t be afraid to directly take on those who express anti-Christian opinions.

Contact your local, state, and federal representatives on a regular basis and let them know where you stand on the issues.

2) Be Seen: Don’t be afraid to let the world see you in action. Peaceful protests are perfectly legal, and you have the right to be out in public, and make your beliefs known. You have the right to oppose things that are immoral, go out and protest any pro-homosexual event; we must defend the sacred institution of marriage with reverence.

Take a different approach, attempt to pass out gospel tracks at a ’gay pride’ event, many homosexuals will shred anything you give them in front of our face, but many will also take the literature and read it later.

God bless those who has the guts to go down to Montgomery Alabama to stand and protest the removal of the Ten Commandments, the blatant act of censorship.

Post signs in your yard (Pro-life, Ten Commandments, etc.) or tape them in your front window.

Write messages on your car, or place window stickers, or bumper stickers where people can’t help but see them.

Wear T-shirts or Sweatshirts that share your point of view, and don’t let anyone push you around.

3) Withhold your support: The act of boycotting is an act of Christian stewardship. Don’t shop at stores, or do business with companies that violate your beliefs. Money is power in the world of big business especially where liberals are concerned, don’t give them yours.

Let them know that you don’t appreciate their liberal policies, and that you will go elsewhere for whatever you want or need. When they get enough feedback, or loose enough profit they tend to start listening to the voice of reason.

A little sacrifice on everyone’s part can have big results, you can pass on the Big Mac, or those fries, and they aren’t healthy for you anyway! Always let the company know why you are not spending your hard earned dollars at their facilities, a simple email, or a phone call will do the trick.



Most of all, stand up for Jesus, even if it costs you your very life, this is the type of commitment Christ expects from His followers, this is the definition of being completely sold-out.

The Lord tells us in his word that if we loose our lives we will find them, and if we hold on to them, we will loose them. If we will acknowledge him before men, he will acknowledge us before his Father in heaven. If we deny knowing him, he will deny knowing us also. This is not just talking about mere words, it is also talking about the way we conduct ourselves in public.

I wonder how many liberals would be willing to die for their beliefs? Somehow I suspect that most of them would not dare to go that far. That is because what they believe in is not worth dying for, but the Christian faith is worth it!

God is not calling for you and I to necessarily become martyrs, although around the world even today many are being tortured, and killed for their faith. But he is asking if you and I are willing to go to that extreme, it is more an attitude of our hearts.

Are you willing to go all out for the Kingdom of God even if you could loose everything you have, even your life.

I believe God is allowing certain things to take place in America in order to wake up the church. It could even get nasty, and it probably will before he is through with us.

Remember that judgment begins in the house of God; therefore, he will deal with you and I first before he deals with the ungodly. Do yourself a big favor and heed the wake up call now! Become an activist for Christ!
