Gospel
Therefore the Lord
Himself will give you a sign.
Behold, a young woman
shall conceive and bear a son,
and shall call His name
Immanuel.
[Isaiah 7:14]
***************************
Rebyah, and her husband
are very tired. It has been
a long day, and promises to
be a long, cold night, also.

"Rebyah! What are you DOING?
Close the door; you're letting
in the COLD!"
"What? Oh, I was just wondering
if I should go out to the shed.
It has been so very QUIET!"
[Michael shrugs, and shakes
his head, yawning widely.]
"Nah; leave them be, Rebby.
I told him to call to Leisha's
kid, if there is trouble."
"Who, little SAM? Ech;
what does HE know?"
[Michael frowns, and
shakes his craggy head, again.]
"No, NO! Sammy's out with
his uncle's sheep, tonight.
He's got a fire going, just
beyond our shed."
"Ah. Well, he's sure not to
go to sleep; Sammy's a good
boy."
[Rebyah nods to herself, and
closes the wooden door.
She wishes she could fall
asleep, as easily as her
husband. She knew that
within five minutes, he
would be snoring loudly,
and talking to himself.
Perhaps, she should
just make herself useful,
and walk down to the
shed. She hadn't seen
the couple herself,
but, Michael had said
the girl was very young.]
[Yawn.] "Let them BE,
Rebby! These things
take TIME! Go to
SLEEP! Before we
know it, it will be
SUNRISE!"
"Yes, yes; you're right.
And, it is very warm
inside there, with the
animals. I am glad
there was extra straw."
[Sleepily nodding, Michael
can barely keep his eyes
open.] "The man offered
me some coins, but I
refused him. After all,
we weren't DOING anything!
In the morning, we can take
some food to her. There
is nothing to do, for now."
[Rebyah nods slowly;
she's suddenly very sleepy.]
"........But, wait.
[She takes off her shawl,
and moves away from the
door. Her old, woolen shawl
smells of the crisp, night
air.].......Wait."
"It seems like we are all
waiting for something."
[Michael scratches the
top of his balding head,
with the calloused fingers
of his right hand. Already,
he is falling in a dreamless
sleep.]
"Yes. [His wife leans over,
wearily, to remove her sandals.
It has been a very long day.]
...Waiting....for Something."
*****************************
And she gave birth
to her first-born son
and wrapped him in swaddling cloths,
and laid him in a manger,
because there was no room
for them in the inn.
[Luke 2:7]
