Our Christmas Present to Jesus

If we were to throw a birthday party for Jesus
And invite him to our home
I wonder what would be the greatest present that we might give
To the one that has everything, as everything He does own (or does He?)

What would Jesus want for His birthday?
What would make Him smile?
What would fill His heart with joy?
What would cause Him to want to be at our house awhile?
Would it be a fancy cake with ice cream on the side?
Would it be party favors that are sure to bring a smile?
Would it be the Christmas tree with decorations and lights aglow?
Would it be all this that would make this party so?

Would it be world peace?
Or the environment oh so clean?
Would it be all the governments?
And all the people living in unity?
Would it be being kind to our neighbor?
Instead of casting stones and sticks
Would it be a fancy car or a trip oversees?
Would it be any worldly thing?

Would it be all of mankind?
Loving one another
And never considering doing harm
To another sister or brother
Would it be man tithing all of his money?
Or feeding the poor and sick
Would it be being kind to your neighbor?
Instead of casting a stone and stick
Would it be a new car or a trip oversees?
Would it be any worldly thing?
Hmmm, I wonder, just what would it be?

Not that any of these gifts may be wrong
As each one has their scriptural place
Yet I think the greatest gift
Would be that the whole human race
Gave to Jesus all of their body, spirit, and mind
And that each allowed Jesus to live in their hearts for all time
I think the greatest gift that we ever could choose
Is that we give to Jesus all of me and you!

I think what would make Jesus the most happy
Is that there would never be one lost soul
That each person had accepted Him
And from His heart would never go
That each made Him Savior and Lord
And every person would to Him give their all
Every heart would be full of His great love
And always joyously answer His gentle call

As we sit in our home this Christmas
And celebrate the birth of our Lord
Maybe we should consider that just maybe
What He would desire is our hearts, as this we can afford
God said that if we would draw near to Him
That He would draw near to us
So maybe our focus should not be so selfishly hearty
Maybe we should invite Jesus to come, to His own party.
