“The ground covered with thistles represents a man who hears the message, but the cares of this life and his longing for money choke out God’s Word, and he does less and less for God” (Matthew13:22) The Living Bible

Within this heart there lacks the person’s ability to discern what he is doing to extinguish the benefit of the Word’s ability to bring life through obedience to God.

The Word of God will not bring fruit in a heart that has not cultivated a place for its presence. We cannot desire “things” to sustain us, be deceived, worry, fret and expect to bring in a harvest of increase from 30, 60 to 100 times more for the Kingdom of God.

When I was growing up, one of my jobs was to dig thistles from the pasture where our cattle grazed. The thistles would try to take over where luscious grass would have grown for the benefit of the cows. The thistles only created havoc. It is the same in God’s kingdom. Unless we have a clear pathway to God (meaning we have eliminated obstructions of this world from our lives), we will be hampered in our attempts to serve Him.

PRAYER
Lord, I thank you that my heart condition can be improved upon as I survey what in life tries to choke You out. Please give me wisdom to sort through how I live and get rid of the “thistles” that try to take over. Amen.
