I realize now what I am without,
your familiar presence is gone.
I miss it without a doubt,
this realization on me does dawn.
Like the poem Footprints,
I now only see mine in the sand.
But I know you are not carrying me this time,
this is not what I planned.


You said you'd never leave me,
that I'd never be alone.
We would walk through life together,
the world to me you've shown.
Why did you leave, I plea,
you left ... or was that me?


I go to church on Sunday,
even Wednesday sometimes, too.
I built up a wall around me,
and nothing can get through.
The preacher speaks of the cross,
of how Jesus died for me.
I feel the walls weakening,
oh, how hard must this be?


You said you'd never leave me,
that I'd never be alone.
We would walk through life together,
the world to me you've shown.
Why did you leave, I plea,
you left ... or was that me?


I run from these feelings that plague me,
I can run, but cannot hide.
The voice of God speaks to me,
I fall to my knees and cry.
I call my mom and my daddy,
and tell them now I understand.
I've repented, God is back beside me,
I will follow his command.
