A theological seminary believed that for their students to do a good job of pastoring a church, they needed to be very grounded in the ability to preach without notes to refer to. They made sure that each student had a chance to preach at the seminary chapel at least once without referring to notes. Of course this required that the students thoroughly study their text.

A young student was asked to take on this task and preach on the story of the little man who climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus.

"Jesus was walking down the street and a large crowd was following Him. There was a little man named Nicodemus who because of his small stature climbed a sycamore tree in order to be able to see the Master." As soon as he said "Nicodemus" the other students in the congregation started to mouth something to him. People started to whisper and he could not get what anybody was saying. Finally a fellow classmate wrote on a piece of paper, "Zacchaeus!" and held it up for him. He realized that he had made a mistake, but still being a proud man, he was not going to admit his mistake. He continued preaching. "Then Jesus came to the sycamore tree and looking up saw Nicodemus. Then he pointed to him and said 'get down at once Nicodemus! That is Zacchaeus' place!"
