THE TREE OUTSIDE MY WINDOW

A single, solitary, forest tree
Reaching for the skies
Tactfully left beside a tarred car park-

Immediately noticeable
Yet, so easily ignored-

This solitary tree
It gives me all the pleasures of the woods
Elegantly poised in its majestic loneliness-

Heads held high, ramrod straight
Mighty trunks rising straight in one uninterrupted flow
To a head of crinkly, delicate leaves, on jutted branches-

Rarely a bird perched on those mighty arms
Welcomingly spread out
Gently swaying to the gentle breezing music of the wind-

Giving voice to the song of the wind
In gay swinging motions of the wind dance
It exults in its ubiquitous uniqueness-

Gentle giant of nature
Sashaying in rhythmic gaiety
To all that music swishing through its branches-

Ne'er a person under its cold shadows,
In the melting spring snow
A perfect circular ring of green is a sign of the times-

A sign that emerges
From the surrounding whiteness around its stem
Stems perfectly rounded in proportion-

Green tainted bark
Reminders of many hard winters
Survived with dignified ease-

This rendition of creative magnificence
Bearing with aplomb
Weighty circumstances-

A serene emblem of all that is nature's serenity
Sturdy, becalming, strong and enduring
The Creator's gentle reminder-
