REMEMBERING MRS. HANNAH

They say there are people who stand out in your life who make an important difference in your life and it isn't until later you know that. Mrs. Evelyn Hannah was my seventh grade teacher at Levi school outside of Memphis, Tennessee. It was the 50's and we were always glad to see Mrs. Hannah because she love each and every one of us. Just as we were and her way of showing us her faith still brings gladness to my heart.

Mrs. Hannah rode a bus to get to Levi everyday. Quite a feat when you consider the end of the bus line was in South Memphis and so she had to get a ride from the bus stop several miles away each and every day. Don't know how she did that, wish I knew now, because her gift for her students and the love of teaching has made its mark on my life. Mrs. Hannah brought a little pamphlet to school every week and on it was a Scripture that we committed to memorizing each week. Along with that our year with Mrs. Hannah found President Eisenhower adding the words “under God” to the pledge of allegiance. She stressed to us a belief that cannot or is not freely shared in classrooms any more, everything in the world and beyond is under the authority of God.

I cannot tell you what we learned in the 7th grade other than to tell you that we were given some very encouraging and uplifting counsel and instruction by this dear woman. More than likely you have not heard of Mrs. Hannah but in my heart I will always be grateful for her. She taught me more that the three “R's”, she helped a strong value system take root in my heart.

Thanks Mrs. Hannah for serving the Lord and for teaching us important lessons we will always have in our hearts.
