Larry Lilly's Letter Thursday November 1, 2007

Carla Taylor has written 10 short articles for Indiana Author's Anthology 2007 and they are great encouragers that deal with real rubber meets the road daily living She shares a sadistic humor in Breaking Up, as she tells of a day in the life of a mom with kids on the rampage, a broken glass, one little darling gleefully telling on the one who broke the glass, Kristin breaking wind, the little one Eric climbing on the TV (Yes TV's were once that large when dinosaurs ruled the land) and this dear bedraggled soul saying: "Kristin was tugging at my sleeve, interrupting my daydreams of running away screaming and never looking back." A Mother's version of Wild Hogs.

And just when she is right on the verge of actually riding off into the sunset, her hubby walks in the door to the delight of ecstatic children and adds joy to her day when he announces, "except for one little thing, he's not housebroken."

Through faith in Christ our girl prevails.

In Cherry Blossoms Carla takes the reader inside the world of a griping teen uttering "I know everything happens for a reason, it all works together for good, blah, blah, blah" the teen version of Romans 8:28, to the joyous inward shout at the sight of the most amazing boy she had ever seen walking toward her. Yep Jesus and a real hunk made her day.

Carla moves on to the tears and the bare bones dealing with the deep inner agony when it is as though her prayers hit the ceiling and bounce right back into her heart like arrows from a Medieval Ogre. God brings her to her knees and the daylight finally breaks through.

Hearts So full is a grand testimony of God reaching down in redemption through the power of a child named Annie. You get an idea of the toughness of Annie when she tells her grandmother in response to her Grandma saying about Annie going to church with some friends that the holy rollers would do nothing but judge her, "It's okay, Grandma, I don't need anyone else to tell me I'm okay." And that from the lips of a mere child. Annie discovers the awesome wonder of Jesus and Grandma leaves a life of about all the addictions, alcohol, drugs, men behind and her life is changed as she is addicted to the Lord. Hope, grace and love now filled her being, leaving no room for the pain of her past!

The South Of France really gets down to brass tacks as she goes through the painful hoops of divorce. The heroine battles the heart wrenching emotions associated with becoming a single mother with two children, moving from the house, a citadel of security, to the unknown and uncertain future. As she walked through the house for the last time, the painting she and John had bought in the long ago, yet yesterday, was gone and she focused on the good times. The haunting cry of her soul burns its way into the readers as she thinks; It is gone, along with the rest of our hopes and dreams upon which we had built our family.

It is interesting and powerful to see how this mother gets it together by implementing a simple biblical principle when she imagines, again, her fantasy about the painting. She simply walked in a different direction when she walked away, as the Lord leads her along.
