Tha gals ya kissed and helt they hand
That showed ya awl ‘bout love
They’ll awl be wrankled up an dead
With tha good Lord up above

Tha thangs ya owned an folks ya owed
They’ll awl be jes a thought
Tha Jones’ es ya wuz runnin’ with
‘An ne’er really caught

Them ‘plomas ya fetched at college
Won’t buy ya nothin’ lastin’
‘Cause tha Lord don’ keer how smart ya are
‘An they ain’t no sense in astin’

Fer life ta really matter
Whur folks miss ya when yer gone
Ya gotta have more ‘an a perty yard
An ah bass boat awl yer own

See, thangs won’t git ya nowhere
If’n ya ain’t got folks tah cherish
Bein’ rich er inna papers
Ain’t worth much once ya perish

Now awl ‘at stuff, it matters some
It’s awl a part ah life
Yer fishin’ friends kin hug ya
But not lak yer sweet wife

I reckon whut I’m sayin’
Is ‘member who ya are
‘An don’t git caught up livin’
Fer a house er ah shiny car

Yer family’s yer real treasure
Yer friends – they’re finest gold
