Facing the darkness
Day after day,
A presence that seems
To never go away.

Awake with the dawn
Its ugly head rears,
Bringing with it
All of its fears.

The setting of the sun
A beautiful sight,
But not in the shadow
Of the enemies might.

The hostile darkness
Taunts and sneers,
For its well acquainted
With all of my tears.

But wait, what’s that?
In the distance I see,
A mighty warrior
Heading for me?

The Champion of Champions
Thus I am told,
But where is his armor
His spear and his bow?

The closer He draws
The more that I sense,
This can’t be a warrior
He has no defense.

He’s simply a shepherd
Armed with a staff,
The darkness won’t clear
Instead it will laugh.

“How can you help me?”
I ask in a huff.
He smiles and says,
“You’ll see soon enough.”

The love in His eyes
Captures my gaze,
The touch of His hand
Sets me ablaze.

His truth intense
His sacrifice pure,
I see by His grace
His mercy is sure.

The light of His countenance
Envelopes my soul,
And from my eyes
The darkness does roll.

Overwhelmed by His power
My knees hit the ground,
Darkness so certain
Now eternally bound.

I will praise Him forever
This Champion of mine,
And share His light
With those who are blind.
