Listen To Your Spirit

A Word of Caution

There are many spirits at work in the Body of Christ that are not the Holy Spirit. These spirits parallel the Holy Spirit. From all appearances they seem to be right. The words spoken even appear to be correct. The only way to know is to listen to your spirit.

The spirit bears witness to truth. Where the spirit of the Lord is there is liberty. We are given a protection to know what is and is not of the Lord by the Holy Spirit. Unless we listen to our spirit, we can get sucked in to something that is not of the Lord.

Case in point. I went to a meeting a few years ago and was a part of the worship team. The worship time was glorious. God’s presence was so beautiful as we worshipped Him. I was engulfed in His glorious presence. I sat down after to hear the speaker that had been brought in. Soon after he started speaking, it was if a switch went off in me. God’s presence disappeared. I became increasingly uncomfortable in my spirit. The man was speaking words that were totally scriptural as far as I knew, yet I knew something was not right. He then started praying for people up front, All the chairs were moved to give him much room as people were seemingly being slain in the spirit. I stood at the back and observed. He then stared at me. I knew that there was no way that he was going to touch or pray for me. I had no idea what I was dealing with, but I could not get out of there fast enough. I trusted the leaders of the meeting, so I figured something was wrong in me. I kept praying and seeking the Lord for three weeks. I then got my answer. The man had a familiar spirit. It looked right, and the words were right, yet it was a wrong spirit. Listening to my spirit protected me. I went again to the meeting and noticed that many that had been prayed for were no longer full of love and friendly to me that were prior to being prayed for. I finally had a talk with the meeting leaders. They said to me, why did you not tell us? Well, I did once I understood what I was dealing with.

Since that time, I have encountered this spirit again through places I would not have expected. Let’s just say that there are some ministries that are well known that have a familiar spirit in operation in them. I feel that I must caution people to not get caught up in the things they see that are so supernatural, but stay only caught up in the one that does the supernatural. This of course is Jesus and the Holy Spirit. This is the only way that you can be protected from these false spirits.

Years ago the Holy Spirit gave to me these words in a poem I wrote. They apply more now than ever.

“The words may be right
Yet the spirit or motive be wrong”

Just because the words are right and you may see supernatural things taking place, does not mean that it is the Holy Spirit. Do you feel liberty? Do you sense the fruit of the spirit? Be on guard, as there are many spirits that have entered into the world to deceive many. Listen to your spirit. This is your protection!
