Twas to take my brothers food
I was running as fast as I could
Being the son of Jesse
I was always very busy

As the wind blew through my hair
I really didn’t care
In the field I wanted to be
So the battle I could see

As to the battle field I drew near
I could see everyone filled with fear
Then I heard clear and well
Goliath insult the God of Israel

From the camp of the Philistines he came
Seeing this battle just as a game
For he was nine feet tall
And as imposing as a wall

Why line up for battle
I will herd and kill you like cattle
When this threat the people did hear
They all ran away from fear

I with indignation was filled
Decided to face him though I be killed
When Saul heard what I said
Straight to his palace I was led

Take my weapons to me Saul said
His helmet would not fit on my head
The only weapon I had was a sling
A stone also did I bring

Against me with sword spear and javelin
I in the name of the God I believe in
His insults to God in my ears did ring
Courage to my heart the Lord did bring

It was an action quick and swift
The stone in my bag my hand did lift
Around and around and off the stone went
Got him in the head where it was sent

Down came the frightening giant
His silent mouth no more defiant
Tis a mighty victory we all said
Praising the God of Israel
