To Mother and Dad

There’s so much I’d like to tell you
If I thought that you’d understand,
Things that I’ve found so difficult
About growing up and becoming a man...
I know what you’d say - you’ve told me before,
But it seems the only way
I learn a lesson that does any good
Is to “goof” my own personal way.
All the advise you’ve given to me
Was valuable - so very true -
And I’ve kicked myself time and again
For not giving heed to you.
Still, I’ll try and try and try again -
I’ll finally get it right!
I won’t give up ‘til I’ve beaten the thing
And done it up proper and right
Someday when finally I master a few
Of life’s troublesome, problem roads,
Perhaps I’ll be able to stand by your side
And share with you, your heavy load.
Perhaps you will see, it was not in vain
That you loved and stood by my side...
Perhaps you will see that the son you raised
Can fill your heart with pride....
Perhaps I’ll be able to thank you then
For standing by me in the dark...
And let you see that you raised a MAN
From the depths of the love in your heart
