Echoes


Echoes of yesteryear drift through my mind,
Whispers from days gone when life seemed more kind;
You were beside me then, morning and noon,
Such fun we had together, all gone so soon;
Climbing in trees, paddling in brooks,
Swinging on ropes, hiding in stooks,
Racing to school our faces aglow,
You were the best brother any could know.
Now times have changed and life seems more solemn,
Bright days of spring replaced now by autumn;
So sad I am to see you sitting there,
Unable to walk, reliant on chair;
Yet in my heart there still is no other
Can take your place, my own elder brother.
