Heartbreak kid, though you wouldn’t know it;
She smiles at you through hidden pain;
Her sky blue eyes would never show it;
She’s made her heart her singular aim;

Her auburn hair reflects a passion
For life and love and things to learn;
She doesn’t care about the latest fashion,
Yet has a style that seems to burn;

You don’t know, Rainbow Girl,
But I think I know you;
You don’t know you’re still my world,
But maybe now you do;

A rainbow came to this world,
A sign of so much promise;
You have my love, Rainbow Girl;
I know I got to be honest;

Your bounce on that rocking horse
Still shows up in your step;
Who knew then it’s a part of your course
Living life so adept;

They look at you, then look at me,
How does one come from zero?
I look at you, quickly I see,
I feel like you’re my hero;

Rainbow Girl, you amaze me,
So colorful and so true;
When I grow up, I’d like to be
As colorful as you!




Author's Note:
For Elizabeth Ann Ainsworth, the former Elizabeth Ann Barra. She was born in El Paso, Texas, Dec. 14, 1982. I forget what her weight was then, but she's all "growed" up now. We used to call her "LizBird" and "Lizzie Girl." When I look at her now, "Rainbow Girl" comes to mind, with those bright blue eyes, fair skin with freckles and dark red hair. Her appearance seems to reflect her attitude on life: "Love it and live."

To say we've had a strained relationship would be an understatement. I was a horrible father. In attempting for us to talk again, I ended up losing her mailing address as she was about to move. Eventually, she moved from California to another state, which I was unaware of. I began to believe I would never see her again.

Then, one day, I was checking out a certain website that had to do with people finding each other. I felt compelled to enroll. A day later I got a message from her. I knew it had to be the Lord.

So I got another chance.

This was a long time coming. All the time I felt like this I didn't know how to say it.

I think I found a way...
