A late summer's afternoon,
cold as winter deep,
I heard a song upon the wind:
"Spring is coming, late or soon,
surely as you sleep,
to warm the frost beneath your skin."
A rose appeared on my path.
Such a pleasant scent.
Something I smelled once, in a dream.
I found its roots still intact,
alive, stem not rent,
so I planted it by the stream.
I looked out at early dawn --
Grass scorched by the sun
of a harsh summer season passed.
Not a bloom upon the lawn.
Fear warns I should run,
but I think I should just hold fast.
I'll wait to see if that rose
takes root, multiplies,
if it wilts away by Fate's hand,
if it stays, comes spring grows,
frost thaws at its cries,
if it will brighten a barren land.
A late summer's afternoon,
cold as winter deep,
I heard a song upon the wind:
"Spring is coming, late or soon,
surely as you sleep,
to warm the frost beneath your skin."
Tender lips upon petals,
whisper-soft silk touch:
"I'll wait forever, if I must,
'til timeless dewdrops settle;
Sure promise as such --
an ageless essence I can trust."

love it.
Powerful words going to the marrow of a man, a woman ... and I remember ... A rose appeared on my path.
Such a pleasant scent.
Something I smelled once, in a dream.
I found its roots still intact,
alive, stem not rent,
so I planted it by the stream.
May God grant us the grace to ignore fear's warning; to wait, to watch, to revel in the spring now come again.
