Midnight at the Shelter

It was a quiet night in the lower ninth. God’s blessings come in small packages. It’s after prayers at the shelter and everyone is tucked in and snoring. Thank you Jesus. (35 words)

The Morning News

A morning paper means it goes to bed at midnight. My job is to tuck it in. Unfortunately, the evil-doers of this world don’t wear watches. I’m on twenty-four/seven, it’s an occupational hazard. But, it’s my choice in life, and I thank the Lord daily for the opportunity. (49 words)

Real People Sleep

Beepers, cell phones, even email that chirps. If I listened to God as much as I listen to electronics my life would be so much easier. However, I have to trust God to let me sleep even though the electronics do not. (42 words)

Show me the Fountain

At 29 years old I shouldn’t have to worry about looks. Long hours and a poor diet have turned my body into something only the Lord could love. Well, the Lord and my mother. I guess will continue to look for the fountain, some magic potion, and keep praying. (49 words)

Good thing God is Fair

Good thing God is fair cause I am questioning charges by the auto repair shop. They have always been honest with me so it’s probably my own naiveté. I will pray for them and my own shortcomings; and, trust the Lord to show me the fair way to love my neighbor. (50 words)

My fav - Midnight at the Shelter... such a strong visual - and of course, the electronic intruders. Little nuggets with big messages!

Your writer's voice is very strong. The last one hit a chord with me possibly because of a situation that I am in the middle of.

I agree with some of the other. Very good, and the one about electronics was an "ouch."

Each one shared a truth well, but I liked "Show Me the Fountain" the best, the reason being obvious.

I really enjoyed these. Great writing. So many images packed into so few words. Great job. I really liked the one about electronics. That one convicted me.

Well done, Dub. I particularly liked the one about the morning paper and Show Me the Fountain. I really enjoyed the fact that they were all self-contained, but they had the same character. Like five chapters from a really short novel. I'm glad you jumped into the "snap-shorts" mini-Challenge! Love, Deb

I can really picture the shelter where everyone is tucked in and snoring. The electronics interrupting our rest is a biggy for me too. Right on, friend!

Loved 'em all, my favorite was the last one. I like this gal's voice, she's a cool cookie.
