Prayers
"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone." 1 Timothy 2:1
I don't know about you, but there are times when I feel like my prayers lack substance. Okay, I would pray- but it will be a quick one like, "Lord, help me!" or " Please watch over my family.. In Jesus Name, Amen." Then I will rush to the day and before I know it, the day is over, and I will say a quick prayer again, "Thank you Lord!"
And then there are times when my prayers will be so long, and they would include everyone that comes to my mind at that moment.
Floods of feeling can come when we pray. There are also obstacles to prayer. There are times when we just don't feel like praying, but we pray anyway. But we must not assume that prayer is effective only from an eager and emotional heart.
I believe that God hears every prayer as long as we acknowledge Him and humbly surrender to His will. It's all a matter of faith that He will answer according to His will.
It's commanded that we must pray for everyone. Yes, even for that person you just can not stand. One time, I prayed for a difficult co-worker. Actually, I prayed that I will learn to accept her for what she is and as I prayed that God would change "my attitude" towards her, we seemed to get along. What if I prayed that God would strike her with a contagious disease? Do you think God will hear? I doubt it. In fact, it may even turn up against me. Be careful what you pray for. You may get it!
What I learned from prayer is that it is supposed to be perpetual, not just during those times when we want solutions to our problems. We also need to give God our praises everyday. What does it mean "Pray without ceasing?" Are we supposed to be like monks and saints kneeling inside a closet and recite long prayers 24/7? Of course not. We can talk to God anytime, anywhere, whatever the circumstances maybe.
And most of all, when we tell someone, "I will pray for you" may we not forget to do it. I know it's easy to forget so it's better to do it right away or have a journal of prayer requests. I have about 3 or 4 of prayer journals but even to keep track of all prayer requests can seem so daunting. So, it's better to pray right away whenever the situation calls us to do it.
"Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete." John 16:24
Praying for you in Jesus Name,

I, for one, have been guilty of not keeping up with a prayer journal. I do try, just as is your advice, to pray immediately when a request is brought to my attention so that I won't forget. But I think I'll make a strong attempt to do a little better at keeping a journal. I'll pray anyway... even when my prayers seem to my natural eyes to be ineffective. Great advice!
Yes, go ahead and pray anyway! If you should see me out in public sometime, and see me mumbling, it's because the love and adoration I have for my heavenly Father cannot be kept inside...however, it is not intentional, so the casual observer just thinks I'm talking to myself...(I do that sometimes!)....but there is always a praise in my heart, so thank you....I will go ahead and pray....cause I love Him so much! Sorry for the long post. Prayer is a favorite subject of mine.
I'm getting out my journal right away! I love these reminders, especially well written ones....because isn't God so good to give us a way to talk to Him? :)
this was a good article. I try to keep a preayer list each month and pray for one person in my life each day, Thanks also for reviewing my article, God bless.
Dear Gloria what a beautiful reminder of how we should pray and how we should not pray. God is certainly worthy of our prayers and our praises. I love you, Sharon
Dear Gloria...what wise words - thank you! This says is all: "I believe that God hears every prayer as long as we acknowledge Him and humbly surrender to His will." Yes, to praise God in all circumstances and yield to His Will as our Lord and Savior is the key to prayers that 'connect' with our Lord. Bless you for these wonderful reminders! With love, Your Sis, Peggy
