What is the key word for healing? Faith! Is this the ultimate key? What does the Bible say about faith and healing? In Jesus’ ministry, faith and healing went simultaneously together. If you study the four gospels carefully, you’ll notice that Jesus always said, “Go your way, your faith has healed you.”

In the story of the Canaanite woman in Matthew 15:22-28, Jesus commended the faith of this woman, who relentlessly go after Him, even as Jesus told her that He was only sent to the lost sheep of Israel when she urged Him to heal her demon-possessed daughter.

The faith of this woman was commendable because we see in verse 25 that she came to Jesus and began to bow down before Him, saying, “Lord, help me”; after Jesus asked her to go away. Her faith for the healing of her daughter was not shaken, as she doggedly pressed in to Jesus, even as Jesus said to her that it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs. However, she replied that even the dogs feed on the crumbs which fall from their master’s table.

She was not the least shaken in what Jesus said to her because she was desperate and have such great faith to believe that one touch from Jesus was able to heal her daughter. Jesus said to her in verse 28, “O woman, your FAITH is GREAT; be it done for you as you wish.” (NASB)

We see here a woman with a bull-dog faith that will not let go of Jesus until she received something from Him. She knew what it meant to hang on to Him even when the circumstances seemed bleak.

We see another story about the woman with the issue of blood (Luke 8:43-48). She probably heard of Jesus and knew in her heart that if only she would touch the fringe of His garment, she shall be healed. She knew that one touch from Jesus was enough to heal her. She therefore boldly pushed her way into the crowd to touch Jesus, and He felt power went out from Him. Jesus said to her in verse 48, “Daughter, your FAITH has made you well; go in peace.” (NASB)

We evidently see that faith is linked to healing, and as you placed your faith in Jesus, He will miraculously heal you. Many people try to receive their healing by placing their faith on their own strength and effort. They did all they could by going for faith healing in meetings and expect a miracle from God. All they wanted was healing without pressing in to Jesus and place their faith in Him. If the focus is not on Jesus, they are then focusing on themselves.

Our faith in Jesus is to hear His Word. Romans 10:17 says that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. We must lock in our faith in Jesus and hear what He is saying to us regarding our healing. Sometimes we do not receive our healing because we didn’t obey what God is saying to us. God does speak to us regarding our lives in regards to our healing. It could be unforgiveness that He wants us to let go, or a disobedient heart that He wants us to repent. Whatever those conditions are, we need to hear from Jesus in what He is saying to us. It is only by obeying that our faith is strengthened and we receive our healing because our faith is placed on Him.

At other times we need to pray fervently like the woman in Luke 18 who persistently pressed on to the unjust judge to vindicate her. Jesus told this parable to show that even though the judge was unjust and couldn’t be bothered with the widow’s cry, but at her persistency, he relented in protecting her, lest he becomes weary with her continuous pleading.

Jesus said that if the unjust judge can be persuaded in a persistent woman, wouldn’t God in His own great mercy hears your prayers as you bang into heaven’s door day and night? Your faith causes you to cry out to Him continuously because you trust in a great God and surely He will hear you if you are committed to wrestle your issues with Him.

Take courage that God will hear you if you do not give up and constantly place your faith in Him and He will hear you. Thus we receive our healing if our faith is working for us by placing our trust in Him and never to give up.

Have faith in God and you shall receive your healing.
