Politics
If you are expecting some lofty political piece here, forget it. I don't do politics very well.
However, this morning I listened as Senator Hilary Clinton discussed health care and I was intrigued. Especially when John Edwards said that if his proposed health care plan was not enacted, should he reach office, within six months, he would see that all those politicians, right up to the President himself, or herself maybe, wouldn't have insurance anymore either.
I don't have health insurance. Can't afford it and neither my nor my husband's job offers it. I've often wondered why things are as unbalanced as they seem to be in this world. You have all these people who are clearly rich to begin with but people continue to give them stuff for free. They could afford to buy it. Take celebrities. They have more money than I probably will ever see in my lifetime, yet they go to these award shows and recieve thousands of dollars in merchandise. I was watching the news the other night and learned that Tiger Woods earned 10 million dollars just for spending an afternoon wielding a golf club and hitting a little ball into a hole!! Imagine!
Anyway, as I was later perusing through the paper at work, I noticed that she would require every American to have a health plan and pay for it. My question is--if you can't afford it now, how are you gonna pay for it then? Will the insurance police be beating down our doors and throwing us into prison for failing to conform to the new regime?
I don't usually follow these things but I must admit, I am intrigued by the notion of a woman president. I feel she is a strong and capable person who may be able to lead us out of some of the mess in which we find ourselves. Yet, I haven't made any firm decisions, and I would never just vote for her to see a woman become president. I hear a lot about Barack Obama but so far I feel he just doesn't have enough experience. We have a long way to go before we get to the final decision anyway. I tend not to believe most of what any politician says in the first place.
I would be thrilled to have some sort of coverage for my family. But what will be the cost? Really? And who is just playing to the audience?
Our world is clearly divided into two camps. Those that have and those that do not. Don't fall for everything one of the haves promises. Only God knows why some of us don't have much and I trust Him to make sure I have enough, even though my greedy heart might want more. Be careful that you don't fall into some sort of trap just because someone is telling you exactly what you need to hear right now.
In Proverbs, we are taught to seek wisdom. I think if we firmly seek wisdom out, we will be shown which way to go. All the confusion will be cleared.
In the meantime, I'm watching carefully those things that are happening all around me. I hope you are too.
