a living frond
folded, bend, broken
after the parade of celebration
marking the stand and end
of the Holy Week
Made by her hands
given into mine
Held now in prayer
between the enfolded
fingers of my hand
A supple living cross
which she made for me
reminding us how soon
praise and welcome
became pain and death
on the rugged cross
