Hello and L'Shana Tova-or Happy Jewish New year. I pray this verse of the week is life giving and an inspiration in your walk with our Lord.

Spirit of the Living God-Have Your way in this devotional, and minister to all those reading it...thank you Lord in Jesus name

"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience."-Colossians 3:12

The Holy Spirirt has shown me that acting in the ways of humilty, kindness, etc does not make us holy and set apart by God. But BECAUSE we are set apart by God, we have the grace to do this. The verse says to "clothe" ourselves with these things. When we put on our physical clothing, we display what is on the clothing. For example, when we wear a red top and blue jeans, all who see us see red and blue. When we CLOTHE ourselves with compassion, kindness, humilty, patience, and gentleness, people see Christ. We belong to God and when we put on His character, people can see that. We represent God with our spiritual clothing just like we represent Calvin Klein when we wear his shirts and pants :)

How Do I act Holy?

On our own don't. However, God, through His Son has called us holy and called us to BE holy. Holiness means being set apart from the world and its desires. A way to become that way it to spend time with Christ so we can be like Him. He was chosen and set apart and when we abide with Him, we too can set ourselves apart from the world. An apple is noticed amoung oranges......

They can't miss us!!!

Every time I have been with someone on a clear, beautiful night I hear the same comment-"there are a lot of stars out tonight." It doesn't matter if this person is Christian or if they don't know God at all. They NOTICE the stars. I really like Matt Redman so I will quote a line from one of His songs, so thank God you are reading this and not listening to me sing, haha! "We will shine like stars in the universe, spreading Your truth in this broken world, we'll be living for Your glory......"(Shine, Matt Redman). People can't miss the stars amoung the darkness. We stand out. When we are clothed with the Lords virtues people notice. They may not say anything, but they notice. Coming from the perspective of a relatively new Christian(5 and 1/2 years now), I can say this. As a non believer, I never went up to a Christian, or someone who appeared to be one and said "excuse me, I have noticed your kindness and humility, and I just wanted to say good job, keep shining!!". And no, people probably will not ever go up to us and mention that to us. However, AS a nonbeliever I did notice these people, they stood out in my mind and their lives and examples were responsible for turning me to faith in Christ. You never know whose life you might be impacting just by being obedient and living for Jesus. None of my unsaved co-workers or even anyone in my family for that matter has ever complimented me on my spiritual walk. However, by seeing my life, seeds are planted in their hearts and they are being watered and the Son is causing them to grow.

One Size fits all!

Being a christian for 5 years, I have heard myself say to the Lord over and over and over again "but I'm not good enough, what if I fail?" His answer is this "My grace is sufficient for you." And PS-if you don't reply on My grace you WILL fail! No matter who you are, God's grace will see you through and enable you to become a light for His Kingdom. Our righteousness depends on Him, or character depends on Him molding us and shaping us, and our testimony, and the fruit of Gods goodness in our lives depends not on us, but on GOD.

Abide in He who is righteous. When you do, you will begin to look like Him, and like Him, you shall shine in this lost and broken world for His glory.
