King Belshazzar made a great feast....
he commanded that the vessels...
which his father had taken out
of the temple in Jerusalem
be brought, and that the king,
his lords...and concubines.....
....might drink from them.
.......they drank wine, and praised
the gods of gold and silver,
bronze, iron, wood and stone...
Immediately the fingers of a
man's hand appeared and wrote
on the plaster of the wall
of the king's palace..........
[Daniel 5:1-5]

"Hey, Lord?"

"What is it, Daniel."

"What d'Ya mean, 'what'?
They called me down here
to take a look at this
stuff You wrote on the wall!"

[SILENCE.]

"I was in the middle of doin'
my laundry, and here comes
these big guys from the king -
tellin' to get my butt down
to their fancy, schmancy party."

[NOD.]

"I didn't WANT 'ta come down;
I was just wearin' an old robe,
and eatin' some mush with my
fingers, Lord."

"Yes, Daniel.
I understand."

"I was just gonna' come down
the way I was, You know?
But, those big guys made me
change inta' somethin'
more suitable for the party."

[NOD.]

"It took me a while, Lord.
Two of my best robes had
a bunch 'a holes in 'em."

"Why is that, Daniel."

"'Could be those 2 mice
who live in my closet.
They get mad whenever I
refuse to share any
of my parridge wit'thum."

"This can be a trial, Daniel."

"Yeah. So.....eh, Lord?
What am I supposed to say
ta' that King Belch'azzar?
He's lookin' at me
like he wants to feed ME
to those mice!"

"That's true, Daniel."

"WELL? What's all
this stuff mean that
'Ya put on the wall, Lord?
I better say sometin'
real quick, or I'm
gonna' be full of
holes, too."

[NOD.]

"Hey, Lord; guess what?"

"What, Daniel."

"The king just told me
that if I tell 'im what
Your scribble says,
he's gonna' give me
a new purple robe, a
gold chain, and a big job
in his palace! What
da' Ya think of that, Lord?"

"I'm impressed, Daniel."

"LORD! This is a big DEAL!
I never had anything
PURPLE, before!
Although, I'd have to
store it something place, else -
'Ya know - what with the
mice, and all."

[SOLEMN NOD.]

"So.....eh, Lord?
What gives with this
scribbled stuff You
messed up the
king's wall with?
Huh?"

"IT'S NOT SCRIBBLE,
DANIEL."

"Okay! OKAY, LORD!
Listen, I better say
something real soon,
or the only chain I'm
gonna' see is that one
in the dungeon."

"I agree, Daniel."

"So? Tell me what
it is I'm supposed 'ta
say, Lord: like real
quick - those big
guard guys are
sorta' givin' me a
nasty look, over there."

"Okay, Daniel.
Do you have a stylus handy?
Here goes......."

And this is the writing
that was inscribed:
MENE, MENE, TEKEL, AND PARSIN.
This is the interpretation of the matter:
MENE, God has numbered the days
of your kingdom and brought it to an end;
TEKEL, you have been weighed in the
balances and found wanting;
PERES, your kingdom is divided and
given to the Medes and Persians.
[DANIEL 5:25-28]

(Footnote)
....Daniel was clothed with purple,
a chain of gold was put about his neck,
and proclamation was made.........
that he should be
the third ruler of the kingdom
That very night Belchazzar
the Chaldean king was slain.
[Daniel 5:29-30]
