Truth Spoken in Jest (2) The Drowning Man
A man was enjoying his boat ride and it hit an iceberg.
Soon his boat was filling with water and he immediately prayed that the Lord will save him.
The situation was getting worse and he became desperate. Suddenly someone arrived with a boat to help but he refused help saying ‘I have just prayed and God will help me.’ The Good Samaritan left.
He kept waiting for the Lord to help and now his boat was full of water, so he jumped out.
Soon another man appeared with a boat to rescue him but he once again refused help, saying ‘I have prayed to the Lord to come and help me.’
Unfortunately, this man drowned because he naively thought God will come down from heaven to help him.

Lesson:
1. Often we pray with the mentality that we can put God in a box. Ours is to pray. God chooses how he answers our prayer. We must not insist that God must answer our prayer in a particular way. He is sovereign. We must rely on Him and trust his judgement. He can use anyone to help us so long as we see His hand in that deliverance and give the glory to Him.

2. And when he uses us to help others, we must not become arrogant and tie people to our apron strings- making them dependable. We must be grateful that we were His channel or instruments of blessing. We need to remember that the earth in all it’s fullness belongs to Him and He can use other people if we refuse to be channels of blessing.
