I’ve been contemplating beauty recently….

I noticed a few physically attractive girls today who weren’t dressed modestly (ok, a lot more than a few. I had to walk across campus a few times today. Lol). I started thinking to myself, “Is this beautiful or is this ugly?” I came to the conclusion that it certainly started out as beauty. I mean, it was not good for Adam to be alone. Then, when God created woman, everything was complete. A man will find his completion in the woman (and vice versa) in the spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical areas of life. Both sexes have their shortcomings but when they’re combined, they are the fullness of God’s design for humanity. So, a beautiful girl’s body is an incredible attribute given to her by God Himself. It’s His divine DESIGN. She’s beautiful.

The problem is that sin gets in the way. Our society presses girls to undress themselves to appease the males. The girls respond by finding their societal identity completely wrapped up in trying to achieve male recognition. What a shallow purpose in life! The completeness that the human race was designed to experience when man and woman were created has been reduced to only the physical aspect! Goodbye, completeness in your spiritual, emotional, and mental areas of life.

So, in this process of uncovering herself and giving away her beauty to anyone and everyone, she decreases her value. She decides that giving in and becoming an object is more valuable than maintaining her status as a person. She becomes less than human. She becomes an object. “She” becomes a “that”. No longer known for her character, wit, or intelligence, she becomes known for simply her body. Her humanity is stripped away. That result is not what God intended. Her body was meant to glorify God and bring pleasure to her husband (the same purpose as the husband’s body)…. Not to be a smorgasbord for every passing male to lust after. Instead of being the whole person she was designed to be, she becomes a shell. Her beauty lies no deeper than her skin. She becomes an ugly shell of a person with nothing inside. There is no beauty in that.
