Monday night, and there I sat,
Sprawled out on the floor.
I would rather have been on the couch,
But Honey blocked the door.
Before me was the washing machine,
Which conked out that same day.
What a time for breaking down,
The night the Steelers play!
To you this may come as a shock;
Three times I lost my cool.
A simple belt working loose
Had made me play the fool.
First, I left it plugged in.
That really cost me some.
When I reached up inside,
A wire touched my thumb!
My heels both bounced like a ball,
My curly hair went straight,
And if I had not blown a fuse,
I would be at the Pearly Gate.
Once again I returned
To work on that belt;
Then Sonny called down to me
Asking how I felt.
I turned to answer and the wrench slipped,
Slamming painfully on my thumb.
Then what I did and said, my friends,
Was actually quite dumb.
I screamed for Sonny to come down;
Then said, "Don't argue, come!"
Not looking as he ran to me,
He stomped right on my thumb.
Now here I lie upon the couch,
And the Doc said for a week;
Then perhaps he would cut the cast,
And at my thumb he'd peek.
Honey brings my dinner down,
Sissy tunes my TV set,
And Sonny is somewhere in the state.
He has not stopped running yet!
All of my friends feel quite sad,
For this frustration I've been through.
But don't forget what caused it all;
There are reasons, not a few.
First I rushed to fix the machine;
Then attention I did not pay.
Those words in anger shouted out
Helped to ruin my day.
Pastor will arrive here soon,
With pity in his heart;
But the complete story should I tell
Right from the start?
Now if I do, he will see my need
And know exactly what I am
An impatient, careless, angry wolf,
Hiding in a coat of lamb.
