Rolling With the Changes

It didn’t suit me well,
that trying new things,
like an old trampoline
with spanking new springs,
like a brand new wineskin
filled with ancient wine,
like stopping an old car
on a tiny dime.

I struggled and struggled,
but just could not see
that those changes were good,
just not good for me.
It sure made it harder
when the changes came
that the Lord planned for me
when He called my name.

I was disappointed
when I could not do
the things that change required
and was feeling blue.
It was about that time,
(I was giving in)
when the faintest of cries
asked “Where have you been?”

I hung my head and said,
“Living in the past.
I tried new things,” I cried,
“but they never last.”
With a subtle urging,
He bade “Try again.
In your weakest moment,
on Me you’ll depend.
”

Rolling with the changes,
not of my own strength,
I find myself soaring
miraculous lengths.
Not sure how I got here,
where I am this day,
but I do know the path,
for I know The Way.

It’s been a tough battle,
throwing out old things
that meant much to me once,
but my soul now sings:
“All things are possible,
even change for me.
When I’m weak, then I’m strong,
bound to Christ, though free.”

I’ve got some new fabric
for my trampoline.
And I’m jumping for joy
as I learn to lean.
And I found some new wine
for my new wineskin.
The greatest change, I’ve found,
begins deep within.

It's hard to roll with the changes. I know. I balk at changes - changes in all walks of life. I have always been one who likes things to stay the same, but this isn't reality. I have had to deal with a lot of changes in the past three years, the one most recent was the trauma of my husband having to have his right leg amputated, six inches above the knee. Now, three months later, he is coping, so it makes it easier to accept this change. But changes in our spiritual surroundings are hard to get used to, too. And thank the Lord, you are "rolling with the changes." May God bless you. ... Helen

Dear Treava...You've touched on a very tender spot here because I YEARN to make changes in my life and I can't seem to make any headway! I want so much to walk where God wants me to go... and that means to let go of my fears, TRUST HIM and take some major steps.

These words really grabbed me: "When I’m weak, then I’m strong, bound to Christ, though free.” AND... "The greatest change, I’ve found, begins deep within."

Thank you, Treava, for this gift of encouragement! Love and blessings, Peggy

It’s been a tough battle,
throwing out old things
that meant much to me once,

But, doesn't the load feel so much lighter when we do throw away those old things that weighted us so much? God bless.
