When I began to write this article, I admit it was very difficult for me to pull my thoughts together. Every time I would think about fathers, The Maury Povich Show would enter my mind. This show thrives on mothers seeking DNA testing to find out who fathered their children. Thousands of children are born under these awful circumstances. This is not fair to children. The reality of the crumbling of the family foundation grieved my spirit. But God reminded me, He is the Father of fathers and the fatherless.

A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation. Psa 68:5
In my biblical studies, it was understood the absence of the father in the home is considered a serious misfortune and we are taught that God is especially watchful of the fatherless. This is absolute truth for though my journey in life was difficult and filled with heartaches due to my father not knowing God; God led me to the realization He indeed was my Father. He was there the moment I was conceived and was with me through darkness and fears of not knowing who I was or who I could become. God knew and loved me with an everlasting love. As my Heavenly Father, He prepared my heart and mind to receive His love.

The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. Jer 31:3

There is not anything like seeing a child claimed by a father believing in God. The children are so distinguished and radiating with confidence, spirit, love, etc. I praise God each time I see it. The children tend to have dreams, goals and often times a desire to make a profound difference in the world. They remind us how beautiful life can be when choices are made in accordance to God’s Will. I remember when I began to grasp the reality God was my Father. It was like finally coming home for the first time. I too began to walk with confidence and a love for all life.

I know who I belong to and who I am…a child of God destined to know my place in His Kingdom. My Father is the one who gave His only begotten Son that I should not perish but have everlasting life. This same Father watches over the fatherless and strengthens fathers who accept the calling to follow Him. No DNA test will eliminate the sins of adultery and fornication, but the acceptance of Jesus as Lord and Savior can give anyone a Heavenly Father that can restore the years of being unclaimed as a child of God.

And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. 2Cr 6:18
