Larry Lilly's Letter Friday 13, 2007

Yesterday was a day from the Lord as are all days, yet I found myself through the day tempted to believe the day came from origins other than the city celestial. So on yesterday I did my 7:30 am work at around 9:30 pm and totally unable to get Friday's letter finished.

So, at three am on this much celebrated day by the superstitious, I sat down at the notorious blank screen, clicked a few buttons and absolutely nothing happened. After foolishly permitting the computer to con me with its suggested fixes I finally reverted to type and fixed it myself. I would feel better about computers if there was at least one thing on them that could be fixed with a sledge hammer.

As I sat glaring at the screen more in the mood of a Friday The 13th frame of mind than in the proper spiritual mode, thinking all the while that God has abandoned me, Joyce really could care less, and I was facing not only the blank screen all by me little self, into the home office bounds Molly, the little black rescue of two and one half years. Like a child she seemed to want me to know that she loves me and therefore everything should and will be fine. Armed with this knowledge and a few affectionate nuzzles on my arm from an ice cold nose, I too began to believe that God had not forsaken me, that The Great Blonde really does care, that God Himself had used a tiny black dog to renew my faith and make the old gizzard feel a little better.

After all of the above I still had nothing to say let alone write. Just at this point, I noticed a news article that I had printed off way back on June 29th.

It was at this critical moment that the truth of God's love for dogs and even humans came home afresh to me. When the first flash of truth concerning animals came on a few months ago I wrote an article and sent it to a mag that alleges enormous concern for the hairy creatures we harbor in our homes and hearts, often rescuing them from animal shelters or paying a kings ransom for them from hopefully reputable breeders. In the article I had opined that due to the fact of God using an innocent animal as the first sacrifice for Adam's sin, He must care very much for this part of His creation and knew that Adam also held to this deep care for the animal kingdom and through the suffering of the animal, certainly a lamb, came to at least a limited grasp of the horror in which God holds the commission of sin. In time God confirmed His hatred of sin and His love for His creation by as the Bible says, "Giving His only begotten Son" as the ultimate sacrifice for sin. Not surprisingly the magazine rejected my article thus confirming my suspicion that they use the plight of animals as the mere means of raising money.

The article from the media that launched all of the above, was about a man? claiming he wants to be president who tormented his family dog by putting the dog into a cage and strapping said animal to the top of his station wagon, "Station wagon" that should tell you all you need to know, for a twelve hour trip causing the creature to be frightened near out of it's mind and bowels. When confronted with the overwhelming callousness of his actions said presidential material said, "He got in all by himself and enjoyed it." I guess this pathetic specimen has never watched an interview with a rapist or child molester for his very words are oft used as some sort of lame excuse for their outrageous behavior.

In fairness I point out that the candidate placed the helpless animal in such dire circumstance on a family trip to, are you ready for this, Canada. That should tell you even more than you need to know and gives some insight into such a twisted mind. I can forgive the trip to Canada, I can even find the grace to overlook "station wagon" but causing such agony to the family pooch is something beyond my grasp of things forgivable.
