The Leper
A man with leprosy came and knelt in front of Jesus, begging to be healed. “If you want to, you can make me well again,” he said. Moved with pity, Jesus touched him. Have you ever wondered what happened to some of the people healed by Jesus? The Bible leaves us wondering. What became of the man who was lowered though the roof by his friends? “Take up your bed and walk.” The woman who merely had to touch the fringes of Jesus’ robe and was healed of her affliction. The leper who was touched by the power and healing of the Master.
Can’t you just imagine how he grabbed onto Jesus, with the biggest bear hug, falling to the hard dirty ground, rolling, laughing and crying? Tears of joy streaming down his dusty face and yet he had never been so clean in his life. He had been touched in a real and personal way by our Savior. There was no being appalled at his condition, no hesitancy to heal. Only one thought; to love. Jesus then joined in the man’s joy of being cured.
We will never know how this man lived the rest of his life after his encounter with the Father. Did he share Jesus with others? “Hey if you think that your life stinks..let me tell you my story.” “You’ll never believe where I was at just a year ago.”
What about you? What about the people coming through the doors of your church? What afflictions are they dealing with? Alcoholism, depression, broken relationships, divorce or disease? Until Jesus saw me, wrapped his arms around me and changed me forever.
Who are the lepers in your church? The single mom with the bratty kids who are running up and down the aisles during service. The biker who shows up in leathers, smelling like pot. The woman with a swollen black eye, sitting in the back, sobbing quietly during the service.
Jesus certainly knows their worth, He died for them. He brought them into His house; He desires to heal them, to comfort them, to claim them as His children. What about you? Do you show the love and compassion of our Father, or do you stand at a distance, unwilling to help.
