Faith

And you shall remember
all the way which the Lord
your God has led you
these forty years
in the wilderness,
that He might humble you,
testing you to know what
is in your heart....

(chuckle)
folks probably think
it's about turning 40,
or somethin'."

[SILENCE.]

"Hey, I passed
THAT nonsense
a long time ago,
didn't I?"

[SILENCE.]

"LORD! LORD!
WHERE ARE YOU?
LORD?"

[SILENCE.]

"You're not testing
me, right now,
are You? Why;
is it because what I
said about the clouds,
today, on the drive home:
that maybe it was just
science that made them -
and not You?"

[SILENCE.]

"I was in one of my
bad moods, is all.
Hey, I was just sayin' that."

[SILENCE.]

"Well, You know, Lord;
sometimes, I feel like
You left me out in the
cold! You're helpin'
everybody else -
and I'm just a
little crumb on the
table!"

"Cold, child?"

"Well, that's true.
How could that be -
in July in San Antonio?"

[SMILE.]

"But, seriously, Lord:
I do feel like a little
crumb....a speck on
the tablecloth of life."

"Are you hungry, My child?"

"Are You trying to make
me laugh, Lord? That's
not fair; I'm supposed to
be having a panic attack."

"Then you are speaking
to the right One, My child."

"Thank You, Lord.
So... anyhow, when is it
going to be over, Lord?"

"What, My child."

"My forty years in the
desert: wasn't it enough
that my ancestors had to
go through it, Lord?
Why must I?"

"Are you in the
wilderness, child?"

"Well, yeah, Lord.
I just assumed..."

"Ah, I see."

"Well? Aren't I?
Aren't we ALL?"

"To be in the wilderness
is a good thing, My child."

"Ech! Ugh! Double ech!"

"Very well said, My precious."

"But, WHY, Lord? WHY?"

"Read My Word, child.
And, you will see."

And He humbled you
and let you hunger
and fed you with manna,
which you did not know...
that He might make you know
that man does not live
by bread alone, but...
by everything that proceeds
out of the mouth of the Lord.
