Faith

In my distress
I called upon the Lord;
to my God I called.
From His Temple
He heard my voice,
and my cry came to His ears.
Then the earth reeled and rocked;
the foundations of the heavens trembled,
and quaked......
He bowed the heavens,
and came down....

"LORD! I don't believe
You are so mighty, Lord!
You know that?"

"Why is that, child."

"Well, You haven't answered
any of my prayers, THAT'S why!"

"Ah, I see."

"Yeah; forget about it.
What can YOU do,
anyway, Lord?
NOTHIN'.
(silence)
Like I've said, before,
Lord: You're just
a romantic thought
in my head."

"What are you doing
right now, child?"

"Uh, I'm writing.
Hey, Lord! You
can't take any
credit for that!
That's all because
of ME! I'M the
one who taught MYSELF
to use a computer at
age 48, NOT YOU!"

[SILENCE.]

"And, I'm eating
beans and hotdogs.
But, that has nothin'
to do with You, either."

"I see, My precious.
What else are you
doing?"

[shrug]
"I don't know.
I'm petting my cat,
is all. What's that
got to do with YOU?"

[PATIENT SILENCE.]
"And, what did you
do, today, child?"

"You know, Lord;
I went to work.
Well, I drove there,
and came back.
Inbetween, I worked.
It's my first real
job.....eh, in a
long time.
(silence)
And, eh, not that
this is any big
deal, but there
was a time I'd
never DRIVE on
a highway....let
alone get on one
to go to work."

"I see, child.
And then?"

"Nothin'.
I mean.....eh,
I talked to a good friend,
for a little bit."

"Ah. I see.
And, what then?"

"Well,
I listened to the
radio. Some of it
was about that
bad stuff that
happened, today.
(silence)
Then, they talked
about YOU."

"I see, child.
And, what are you
doing now?"

"You mean what else,
Lord? I don't know......
I'm typing.....and,
oh, I've got my Bible
open; I never used
to even look at it,
let alone write about it.
(silence)
Well, I've got bad
indigestion; is that
what You mean, Lord?"

[NOD.]
"Go on."

"I don't know.
I'm listening to a
CD. It's Messianic
music; it's real
pretty. But,
that's got nothin'
to do with You, Lord.
They're just real
good musicians.
(silence)
Well, come to think
of it....I never
used to listen to
this kind'a music;
I mean, growing up
Jewish, and all."

"Ah, I see.
What else are you
doing, My beloved?"

"Uh, besides thinkin'
about whether I've
got any Tums in the
house?"

[NOD.]

"Well. I guess.....
You know.
I guess.....
Uh, I guess.....
I'm breathing."

[NOD.]

He reached from on High,
He took me,
He drew me out of many waters.
.....He brought me forth into
a broad place;
He delivered me,
because He delighted in me.
