Fruit Insurance

Scripture reading: Philippians 2:12-13 KJV

I once owned what I called a creative washing machine. From Fruit of the Loom it could manufacture Hanes, from blue socks green or even an item I'd never seen before. Discovery can birth short-lived elation, “Wow! How neat, where did you come from?” All too soon though the novelty wore off when the truly useful item failed to show up.

Today I wonder, “Am I like that with the Lord? Do I cough back something He can’t recognize - or even use?” Thinking about this brings me to another question: “How can I know what God wants to work in me? How can you? “

The answer I believe lies within the scripture itself, “For it is God which worketh in you… ”

Does the pine worry it might accidentally produce acorns? The branch fret the vine might cause it to bear apples in place of grapes?

“That’s foolish!” you say, but no more so than our questioning our own fruitful works. So long as we abide in Him, we have full assurance our desire is identical to His. We will work out that which He is working in.

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.” John 15:4 KJV

Dear Lord I pray You keep me securely attached to You, confident You will produce in me only that which You intend, lasting fruit, pleasing in Your sight.”
