Does God Laugh At You?

On the first day of summer 2007, best friends Jean Patterson and Deanna Logan talked about why Deanna’s five year old daughter, Carol, wanted to give up violin lessons so soon after she had started.
“Carol said she just doesn’t have enough time in the day to practice every day,” responded Deanna.
“How much time did her teacher ask her to practice, Deanna?”
“Twenty minutes each day.”
“Twenty minutes! That’s all! That’s not a whole lot of time to give to a complicated instrument such as a violin,” responded Jean.
Both friends laughed at the very thought of a five year old girl being too busy to practice the violin a mere 20 minutes a day. What does a girl so young could do that was so important?
That night as Jean prepared to go to bed, she began to wonder. “Does God also laugh at me when I think I don’t have even 10 minutes to give to Him every day? What else do I have to do that is so important that I can’t be in the presence of God for less than an hour?

think He laughs at us
the way we make fun of others'
follies or inane ideas.
I do picture Him, however,
sighing, shaking His head
in disbelief, and, perhaps,
smiling half humorously
and half sadly. Well -
you know what I mean.
