Isn’t it time for some introspection?
Do I stand up, after inspection?
Am I the Lord’s, holding Him high?
Do I show Him, with me, nigh?

I read the Word; what Jesus said;
In Him is truth, coming to head;
“Love one another as I love you;”
Command with a Standard; both, so true;

Love is Jesus, not frothy emotion;
After the Father; holy devotion;
Jesus was true, in joy or pain,
In excitement, or the mundane;
Like a thermostat, He, the influence;
Not a thermometer, moved by the instance;

Truth was His motive; God was His power;
He even loved in darkest hour;
He spoke to one’s need, not to desire;
Wisdom in kindness, by Spirit’s fire;

He is the mark, not man’s invention;
What God esteemed, o'er abomination;
Sought not His own, but for our good;
Served unto death, nailed onto wood;

Here is our badge, our holy standard;
Our way to be, even while slandered;
Forgiving sin, rejoicing in mercy;
Mindful of others, by faith we see;

This kind of love is borne of trust;
For the Christian, it is a must;
It is the sign of maturation;
Through the same faith of our salvation;
Maybe that’s why love is the one thing,
Without it, Paul said, we are all “nothing;”

The mark of those so borne above,
Is the badge of Jesus’ kind of love.
