Joy finds me in profound ways...

In the way downy lashes
Rest on my son's cheek as he sleeps.

In the dusty smell between the pages
Of old books.

In the clicking sound locusts make
On a summer night in Texas.

In the cool dampness between my fingers
As they rest on the grass in a park under a shade tree.


In the contagious laughter of a child.

In a bit of wisdom shared by an elderly person
Just when I needed it.

In sermon notes and thoughts
Scribbled inside my mother's Bible.

In overcoming
What I thought I could not overcome.

Joy finds me
when I leave the door of my soul open to accept it.
