I didn’t know God, nor did I care;
Had no heart for anything spiritual;
Had no desire for Him or prayer;
Church, to me, was stupid ritual;

Then once a friend told me ‘bout Him;
Though I was lost, did things for me;
He loved me, in spite of my sin;
And wanted me eternally free;

I thought, “That’s good; good for you,”
And walked away, acting indifferent;
Still, felt inside, knew it was true;
I was still wanted, by the most Reverent;

Then, one day, I picked up a Bible;
It just fell open, ‘round about the middle;
I saw God’s heart; a love without rival,
It was my answer to my own riddle;

I sought Him, reaching with heart,
And felt inside I was renewed;
I saw a love that’ll never part,
In His Spirit, I was imbued;

I know my God, not just His word;
I know He has forgiven me;
I know my prayer, to Him, is heard;
In Jesus, I’m saved eternally;

He never changes, never flakes out,
He became my Heavenly Father;
His love gives me a joy that shouts,
His Son became my dearest Brother;

I still stumble; still fall and break,
Sometimes I lose my way;
But He’s a God that never forsakes;
He welcomes me when I pray;

Death is, to me, nothing to fear,
It becomes part of salvation;
Though I’m not good, not even near;
It simply is my graduation;

So how do I know I am saved;
That, for me, He really cares?
That He received this one, so depraved;
I know He did, for I was there.
