Sometimes

Sometimes I wish my memory would fail ~

The ones that come so often, with such force.

The memory of little heads, of children’s laughter, trundle beds ~

But I would do all that again, of course.



True - I would not (even if I could )

Destroy one tiny memory, e'en though it hurts.

The thorns come with the rose - the storm and rainbow's hue

There must be things that cut you even worse.



It's just, my heart has broken in such ways...

And love, good love, lies ever at the root ~

No selfish motive ever mine ~ no Eros love for my 'valentines'

Never imposed 'power' my pursuit.



That's what He said ~ To love that way...

I did, and now the price to pay

Is painful far beyond my wildest dreams,

And, can I more? ~ for now it seems



Upon a bed of thorns and nails I lay.

I tell myself, "Keep on, you did it right!

And God does know

The anguish of your plight."


He'll come again, revealing sin,

Requiring answers from me, ~ from them ~

And, true to form, we’ll pray...

For love to cover sight.
