I’ve noticed on several Christian programs, some ministers sound more like motivational speakers than proclaimers of the gospel. They preach a New-Age style message that sounds like this, “If you believe you can get out of debt, then it will happen.” It also comes in the form of speaking your lifelong dreams into existence. This is a distorted view of faith. Faith is not a magic potion that you use to get anything you want. It’s accepting God’s will above your own despite what you want. I’m reminded of programs that focus on miracles more than the gospel. It’s true that God heals physically but we must get back to teaching the essentials of the faith. We should be teaching about salvation by grace through faith in Christ, growing in grace, and how to apply God’s Word to our lives. In some churches you’ll hear more about getting a house than growing in Christ. There should be a balance.
