When we first began our outreach in the early eighties, a woman asked if I could take food to a young woman and her baby.

I agreed to go and got the address. It was a location that I did not recognize.

I started out the next morning with my two young children buckled in the back seat.

I drove. And drove. And drove some more.
And some more. And more. And more and more.

This was much farther than I was told it was!
My children went to sleep, woke up and went to sleep again.
I looked back at one time and they both had their thumbs in their mouths. A sure sign of distress and anxiety.

Finally I reached the place.
To my shock it was housing in the middle of nowhere—about forty miles outside of town.
There were no stores nearby, no resources.

Whose idea was this, I wondered to put an apartment out in such a rural area?

I knocked on the door at the address on the paper. A young woman opened the door with a big smile, bursting with energy and happiness!
I was a little taken aback. I'd expected to find someone downhearted and bitter.
The love of God was all over this young girls face.
Her triplets played on a blanket in the front room.

Triplets!!??

“You have…triplets?”
“Yes Maam,” she replied energetically,
“I was disobedient and sometimes things like this happens, but God has blessed me.”

“Wow.”

She went on to tell me that she was a new Christian and God had done so many wonderful things for her in the last months since the babies were born.

She testified how He had performed miracle after miracle for her daily.

“Look,” she exclaimed, “He sent you here!”
She was over taken in the love and excitement of God.
As a matter of fact, every time she or I mentioned the name of Jesus, she jumped up and danced around the room, praising God.

Her children were used to this apparently because they were not alarmed, but my children backed away stuck their thumbs in their mouths again, and held on to my knees.

The things this 18 year old girl told me were incredible, of how sometimes when nearly everyone in the complex was without electricity or heat, somehow her services were never cut off.

She also told of the hard times-how it was difficult to get someone to take them to church, but how she got up, got the babies ready, and caught an early morning bus just to get to church.

She related how God would wake her up every morning around 4:00 am to do Bible Study, and how she was constantly in the word of God.
I left thinking that I had met a very unique individual and that God was going to do something very special in her life.

A few months later she called to tell me she had a car. I was very happy for her, but wondered how that was possible.

She related that she prayed and prayed that God would bless her with a car, and one day God told her to get off her knees and GO TO THE CAR LOT!

It took her a few days to find someone willing to baby sit for her, but somehow she made it to the city. She stopped at the first car lot in sight.

She had only $300. She found a $3000 car, prayed and stood beside it with her hand on the hood.

After a while the owner came out to talk to her.

She told him that she had no credit and had only $300 cash. He laughed and returned to his office.

She continued to stand by the car.

After another hour the owner who was getting a little peeved with her, told her again that she needed to go. He could not make any kind of deal with someone who only had $300.

She became intimidated and started to leave but she says God told her to go right back and stand beside the car! And she did.

The owner went about his morning making deals and selling cars as she stood beside the car she had picked out.

Finally after a time, the man burst out of his office with a set of keys and a piece of paper “Here,” he said, “Take this car and go.”
She gave him the $300 in the envelope and drove away in her car!

We both laughed and rejoiced at that miracle. The owner will also be blessed for his kindness although he probably thinks he lost money. The scriptures tell us in Proverbs 19:17 that when we have mercy on the poor, we lend to the Lord. And the Lord always pays back!

I asked how her car was holding up. She replied that it runs well but sometimes it seems like it is very high off the ground!

I wondered why. She replied that the tires were so bad, she believes that the angels are carrying it on their shoulders!

I had to laugh at that one.

I’ve been thinking…
I think I am going to go to the car lot.
