Kingdom Living

Have you ever been sick and tired of being sick and tired? How many times have you wondered, “Is this all there is to life?” Many of us have experienced these feelings of desperation and hopelessness at some point in our lives. Everything around us seems to be falling apart, the kids won’t listen, we go to the same old job day in and day out, but where does it all end? Is there a light at the end of the tunnel? The Word of God shouts a resounding “Yes! There is hope!” Many of us have grown up in church being taught the same old dead religion. We have been steeped in religion and doctrine, but denied access to true revelation. You see, most people are afraid to go into a deeper relationship with the Lord, because the deeper you go the more accountable you become. Some even avoid this depth because it requires them to lose control of their lives and completely trust the Lord. This deeper revelation that I am referring to can be summed up in one word…surrender! Yes, surrender; a complete loss of control! Do we continue living by the rules and regulations of this earthly kingdom, or do we break the chains of religion and doctrine and begin living a kingdom life? The first step to kingdom living is complete surrender to God. We essentially “let go and let God!” Now, I’m not much on old clichés but this one fits the bill. When we let go of our self-will and hidden agendas, it then allows God to begin healing the hurt, filling the voids, and guiding our steps. We don’t have to work ourselves to death doing good works hoping for a reward in heaven one day. Kingdom living involves receiving those rewards now! I can just hear the religious crowd gasping at this type of thinking. Many are afraid to embrace this type of teaching because they have never experienced it; therefore they choose not to accept it. What is the next step after surrender you may ask? It’s not so much the “what” as the “who”? Jesus. Not Jesus the meek and mild who supposedly let everyone walk all over him, then went humbly and quietly to the cross. I’m talking about Jesus the radical. He is the one that makes it possible to live a kingdom life. Jesus did not fit into the prefabricated mold that many have taught. During his ministry he did not offer his backing to the established religious community; neither did he show much interest in the politics of the day. Jesus was a radical from a very young age. At the age of 12 he “went about His Father’s business” by teaching the religious leaders in the temple (Luke 2:46-49). Jesus always spoke of a kingdom where God ruled. Many don’t realize that Jesus was also radical in His prayer life. Why else would he give us a pattern for prayer? In Matthew 6:9-10, Jesus shows us how to pray. Notice what He says in verse 10; “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” His kingdom operating on earth like it does in Heaven? Stop longing for it and begin living it. God’s Kingdom is here! The kingdom of God is not some fairytale land or some future life to come. It is not a state of mind or a higher consciousness. We need to stop dreaming and embrace reality; the reality of God’s Kingdom. All we must do to begin experiencing this lifestyle is accept the Bible at face value. The Lord shows us throughout His word what life should and can be like. All we have to do is obey! The Bible contains answers for any and everything you may face in your life! It is a blueprint for life. A virtual treasure map that leads us to the promises of a Mighty God! Are you still tired of being sick and tired? Go to the One who can give you rest! Tired of living paycheck to paycheck? Go to the one who promises to “open up the windows of heaven.” Do you need your joy restored? Go to the one who promises joy unspeakable. There is neither time nor space to expound on all the promises and good things that God has in store for those that love Him. Let us begin living by a new standard! Let us begin Kingdom Living!
