Singing Under The Anointing

A friend and I attended a Gospel Concert.

The young singer was so anointed, and beautiful and humble. Her melodic voice rang out sweetly in many songs, hymns and standards that she had taken and added a contemporary style to. We all left knowing what true worship was.

One song she sang "Oh How I Love Jesus" stood out foremost in our minds.

I looked at my friend. "Why can't we sing like that?"

"We have never tried.

Its true.
Neither she nor I had ever been in a choir, or ever led a song, even in a meeting with a small crowd. Our talents were definitely in other areas.

"I want to sing like that one day."

"Uh huh."

"Really, one day I am going to sing that song in front of a big crowd of people."

"OKaaaay..."

"Really, I'm going to practice and practice..."

"Miracles happen every day. And that would really be a miracle. I"ve heard you sing."

We laughed the whole thing off and went about our lives.

She found a job with a large manufacturing company and I began to conduct Chaplain Services and teach Bible in a Christian School.

One Spring I decided to teach the children the song, "Oh How I Love Jesus."

(By the way Children don't mind if you can't sing. The worse you sound, the more they like it. They sing off key themselves, generally, so you're in good company.)

The principal came by one day and heard us, and wanted to know if we could sing the song in Chapel on Thursday. Of course we would.

Thursday came, and I stood on the stage and watched all of the classes filing into the auditorium. A goodly amount of parents had come out for our weekly services, too.

Then, to my horror(sorry), a long procession of foreigners began to file into the auditorium.

They were from countries all over the world. They were dressed in suits and ties and modern dress, but many were also in the traditional dress of the Far East, Africa, Latin America.
They just kept coming and coming until the auditorium was full!

There were ambassadors from Israel and even Iceland. You see, our city was having an international symposium. Our Principal had invited all of these people to Chapel services and hadn't told me a word about it!

Then my mind fell on the song that we were going to sing. I always sang the introduction and the children sang the response, but I was getting cold feet.

I figured after the Devotion, I would secretly give a cue to the pianist to change the order of service and have the children sing another song.

I walked to the mic and said, "There..."
I meant to say, "There has been a change in the order of service."

When I said "There..." an Angel appeared in front of me and said, "Sing!"

As I stood there wondering at the Angel, he looked at me the way you look at a naughty child like -IF YOU DON'T OBEY YOU ARE GOING TO BE SORRY. Again, in a no nonsense way, the Angel said "Sing!"

I thought if God cared enough about this program to send a no nonsense angel, He really means for me to sing this song today. I was afraid not to sing, now.
So I nodded to the Pianist and started,

"There is a Name I love to hear..."

Suddenly the melody of the song began to float over the audience and everbody began to sway to the music.

People began smiling broadly-Muslims, Hindus, Jews, Christians. A spirit of Good Will was all over the room. It was my mouth but it was definitely Jesus who was singing!

When the children chimed in, their voices were so sweet-like a heavenly choir.

Children, do you love Jesus?

Oh Yes we love Jesus!

Do you really, really love Jesus?

Oh yes, we love Jesus!

Tell me why you love Jesus-

This is why we love Jesus, because he first loved me!

Wow- This singing thing was fun! People were standing and clapping. The parents were happy and proud.

The children glowed and smiled after the service at all of the compliments we got from the visitors.

I called my friend that night to tell her about the miracle. It had taken 12 years to come to pass but it happened, and I was just kidding when I said it in the first place!

The moral of the story -God confirms His words with signs following. Even if you have absolutely no talent or training for something, if you earnestly ask God to help you, He will.
If you decree a thing, it will come to pass, if you are faithful and prepare for it.

Job 22:28 Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.

The lyrics to this tradional gospel song was written by Frederick Woodfield.

'When we have come to the end of ourselves that's when the Almighty God shows up for us'- How true!
The way God works is awesome: He prefers working through a vessel that has no confidence in itself, an empty vessel, that is so empty and void of ability so that glory, honour and majesty can be his alone forever. Amen.
'Christ in me the hope of glory'.
Thank you friend for sharing this wonderful experience with us. May the Lord bless you.
