EARLY RISER
Go away cock pheasant!
I resent your early wakefulness;
Honking and conking for your concubines.
Yet there's something rather fine
In the thought of this potentate
Strutting in the solstice dawn
Gloriously arrayed,
Out-Solomoning even Solomon,
Making his way with extravagant gait.
Such creaturely aplomb deserves applause
Though your ostinato forces me to laugh.
So taking thought of your restricted voice
I'll offer praise and thanks on your behalf.
